Completed in September 2009, the Taube Koret Campus for Jewish Life (TKCJL) represents the new high water mark for mixed-use sustainable development. This dynamic inter-generational community provides housing, services, education and cultural opportunities for people from early childhood education to senior living. TKCJL consists of two non-profit entities: the Oshman Family Jewish Community Center (OFJCC) provides a preschool, retail space, meeting rooms and state-of-the-art fitness and performing arts facilities, and the Moldaw Family Residences at 899 Charleston provides independent and assisted senior living units. Since 2004, Sares Regis guided this project through each phase of development, including entitlement, due diligence, design and construction management, working directly for the non-profits’ CEOs and their respective Boards. With an active eye on value creation, cost control and market demand, the project was delivered in advance of the contractual obligation and on budget.

TKCJL is located on 8.5 acres formerly owned by Sun Microsystems. As a brownfield site, development of the project complied with clean-up requirements reviewed, approved and monitored by the Regional Water Quality Control Board, including vapor barriers and a gas extraction system beneath all occupied space. The project was awarded a $200,000 merit-based grant from the EPA for brownfield re-use and achieved a LEED Silver Certification from the USGBC.
